  • News

Help the Western Illinois Museum transform from a small history museum to a community hub that is responsive to its community’s needs. We are ready to take the next step on our Renovate to Innovate capital campaign and invite contractors to submit a bid to turn this “old garage” into a vibrant and relevant place of lifelong, multi-generational learning.

Three packages have been created and the Museum invites bids for each.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 01: Clarification on the concrete floor overlay.
Response 01: The intent is to provide a cementitious self-leveling overlay floor onto the existing concrete slab. The surface shall be level with the existing slab on the western portion of the museum building. Outline specifications are on sheet G102 and drawings state to provide control and expansion joints. It is our understanding that the Western Illinois Museum has completed a similar project on the western side of the museum in recent years.

The Mapei Ultratop PC is one product we would recommend. It can be mixed to accommodate up to 5” thickness, which will also allow for the low-profile walk-ducts (2 ½” thick)

Question 02: Is there a spec for the in-floor electrical system?
Response 02: Part of the project is to install a cementitious self-leveling overlay floor onto the existing concrete slab. The intent is for the electrical feed to run within the poured topping floor and for the floor boxes to be flush with the surface of the floor. One such system is the Legrand Walker Duct In-floor Duct System. Download product cut sheets.

Question 03: What is the fire alarm system and who is the provider?
Response 03: The alarm system is FireLite Alarms by Honeywell. Securitases is the alarm systems provider. The owner will be responsible to coordinate the connection of the alarm with Securitases.

Question 04: Can contractors explore other supports for the rooftop HVAC unit?
Response 04: Yes they can.  They have the final engineering responsibility in any case.

Question 05: On the on-grade HVAC alternative: given the brickwork is hollow clay tile where the drawings indicate punching through for the ductwork, do they need to insert a lintel?
Response 05: Yes.

Question 06: What is the minimum spec for the HVAC unit?
Response 06: Regarding VE, contractors should bid the unit as specified. The “minimum spec” information is on the schedule on sheet M600. We built-in a VE option in the energy recovery schedule and there is a note on this schedule on M600 that states that this component can be omitted. Please indicate a price with and without this component so that we can evaluate the savings.
