The trip to our new home

#COVIDMemory

We lived in Los Angeles when the pandemic hit. Just like everyone else, we locked down. Nor did we know how long it would last. What we did know, was that we were in the process of buying a house, across the country. And we had already given notice to our landlord, that we would be leaving. At the end of April, we were prepared to take a test, before our journey. But unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of tests available.

We had several friends that were making masks, and they gave us each a handful. Some folks scraped together some hand sanitizer, to give us for the road. We slept in the back of our truck, and brought a portable toilet, so we wouldn’t have to make any unnecessary stops. We brought food for the road, so we didn’t have to stop to eat.

I am so glad we did that, because many of the places to eat were shut down. There were sections of the freeway, where the off-ramps were blocked. About the only time we stopped, was to sleep in some out of the way area or to get gas.

We arrived at our new home on May 5th, 2020. We immediately put ourselves in lockdown.

It has taken us over a year, and just now we are finally getting to meet some of our neighbors. But in December of 2020, we lost the neighbor directly across the street from our house. He was a good man who tried to help us get adjusted, after our voluntary time in lockdown.
