Music as History: Insights into the 1970s

Adeline Coupland

Adeline Coupland’s podcast, Music as History: Insights into the 1970s, investigates how people listen to music in McDonough County, Illinois. The podcast was created using oral histories conducted with residents including Tom Carper, Chris Strong, Mildred Sorrels, and Pam Dalefield. They shared their experiences and recollections of the 1970s when many considered music as a way to document their lives and the changing world around them.

In 2023, Adeline Coupland was one of the Western Illinois Museum’s Summer Program Assistants who documented the history of the 1970s in McDonough County, Illinois.  She is a freshman at Macomb High School.

The Summer Youth Employment Program is funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. The Museum receives additional funding from an Illinois Humanities Council grant and from the State of Illinois American Rescue Plan Act.
