New Board and Council Members

  • News

We are pleased to welcome a few new members to the museum’s Board of Directors and Advisory Council. As a non-profit organization, both of these groups play an important part in the Western Illinois Museum’s governance.

After serving on the Advisory Council, Bob Marcott has joined the museum’s Board of Directors.  Over the last year, Bob has become increasingly involved in the museum’s programs, including helping to build Our Front Porch, as well as participating in the Haunted Museum and other re-enacting roles. Recently he joined the Planning Committee which guided the Board of Directors through a Long Range Planning process.

Bob relocated to Macomb from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, after thirty-three years in the legal profession.  As a graduate from Western Illinois University, the move to Macomb is a “coming home,” with family and many friends in the area.  After receiving a BA in political science from WIU in 1974, he graduated with honors from the University of Montana Law School in 1981. Bob was licensed to practice law in the State of Montana in 1981 and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1990.

Bob brings to the museum board past experience serving the community as a member of the DuPage Bar Association and was chairman of the Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission. Bob was also a recipient of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer of the Year Award.

Bob enjoys spending a lot of time with his family and vacationing on Lake Michigan. Bob also likes golfing and riding his motorcycle. He enjoys visiting historic sites and is an avid reader about history.

In addition to the Board of Directors, the museum has an active Advisory Council that meets monthly and brings suggestions from the community,  evaluates strategies proposed by the Board of Directors, and acts as advocates for our mission. This fall three new members join the council:  Abby Ngati, Brenda Sayre, and Dallas Thueringer.

Abby was an intern from the RPTA Department this past summer and played an important role in the development and managing of The Blind Swine Speakeasy events.  This fall, she is beginning her graduate studies at WIU, as well as a graduate assistantship managing the Hainline Theater Box Office.

Brenda Sayre is an active member of the West Central Illinois community.  She is a graduate of WIU, where she earned a master’s degree in counseling with an emphasis in gerontology.  A number of agencies including McDonough District Hospital, the Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, and The Elms have benefited from her service.  Her active participation in museum programs and interest in antiques makes her an ideal fit for playing a role on the museum’s Advisory Council.

Dallas Thueringer is a Peace Corps Fellow and is beginning his studies in  Community Development under the Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs. Both offer different and complementary experiences to the Advisory Council.
