Look at that Brick!

  • News

The facade improvement we began in May is moving along nicely.  As with any project, there are a few unexpected issues that come up but thanks to the crew at Laverdiere Construction and the experience Mason Jerry Vawter brings to the job, a solution was found quickly. Here’s what been going on this past month.

The tuckpointing is nearly complete and the newly cleaned brick has been coated with a sealant to protect it.  You’ll notice the new lintels going in that are matched with new concrete sills.  These will help hold the new windows properly in place.

Two of the eight windows that will be replaced have been ordered for the west side of the building. The brickwork on the west side is in good shape. Working with Pella, they agreed to let us order just two windows to get the Genealogical Society’s library area back to normal without having to wait for the other work to be completed.  Those should arrive in mid-August.

The remaining windows will be ordered once the openings are framed out. This will give us the most accurate measurements for the custom windows.  This work should be done in the next few weeks. The windows take three weeks to be made. So… let’s hope to have new windows before summer’s end! Of course, we’ll have a celebration!

Contributions are still welcome to support the project. The extra work to remove the old lintels added 10% to the estimated costs. More information about how to help can be found online or give us a call at 309.837.2750. Thanks!
