Pocket Pottery Vending Machine

  • News

The Western Illinois Museum is excited to feature Ceramics by Christi who is introducing the Pocket Pottery Vending Machine, offering “tiny treasures to take or trade.” The machine is filled with lovingly handcrafted miniature pottery pieces that have been hand-glazed and detailed with unique designs and color combinations. The machine will make its debut at the Western Illinois Museum on Thursday, September 5 and run through Thursday, October 31.

Christi Steelman is a McDonough County ceramicist who has had a lifelong fascination with miniatures, dating back to a beloved dollhouse and an expansive collection of small treasures acquired throughout childhood. The recent popularity of all things miniature prompted her to start creating a collection of small ceramic pieces; many of them miniatures of full-sized products she makes and sells.

There are multiple versions of more than 20 different designs in the machine, with new designs already in development. To purchase your own “Pocket Pottery”, visit the Museum anytime during regular museum hours or during special events, purchase a token from a staff member for $10 (the museum accepts cash, check or card), insert your token into the machine, turn the handle, and enjoy your surprise miniature.

Take a photo of yourself at the Museum with your new Pocket Pottery, post it to Instagram with the hashtag #pocketpottery, and tag @ceramicsbychristi and @wimuseum to be entered to win a full-sized handmade ceramic mug.

20% of all sales go back to the Western Illinois Museum to support their programs and events.  Visit wimuseum.org for operating hours, exhibits, and upcoming events.
