When Macomb Hosted Lincoln: Devising the Freeport Question

August 26, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm

Join us on Our Front Porch to learn about Abraham Lincoln’s August 25-26, 1858 visit to Macomb for what proved an important moment in his political career. As a guest at the elegant Randolph Hotel on the square, he and his advisers prepared to debate his rival Stephen Douglas. The program will re-enact the scene to imagine how Lincoln used his visit to craft the “Freeport Question” about slavery that catapulted him into national attention and in 1860 helped clear his path to the presidency.

Pie will be served at 1:30 pm and the program will begin at 2:00 pm.  Suggested $5 donation at the door.

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Two Rivers Arts Council.
