The Ivas John Band
August 21, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Western Illinois Museum is pleased to announce it will hold a Block Party to celebrate a new mural created by Macomb native, Tanner Woodford. The party will include live music by The Ivas John Band, food trucks, and a cash bar. The event will take place on Saturday, August 21 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Washington Street, on the north side of the Museum Building. The artist will be on hand during the event. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door.
The mural unveiling block party will feature The Ivas John Band who will perform from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The band is often described as having an effortlessly authentic style that is both a breath of fresh air and a link to days of yore, imbued with the same timelessness as the shores of the Mississippi River they now call home. Ivas’ CD Good Days A Comin, reached number one on the folk radio charts and was nominated for Blues Blast Magazine’s Acoustic Album of the Year. The band’s performances are a mix of electric blues and an adventure into American roots music. For more information about The Ivas John Band visit their website at https://ivasjohn.com/.
The event will be held in celebration of a 10 by 12-foot mural that will be created by Tanner Woodford on the north façade of our building, located at 201 South Lafayette Street in Downtown Macomb. Tanner was born in Macomb, Illinois, and graduated from Macomb High School in 2004. He is the founder and executive director of the Design Museum of Chicago. Tanner is well-known for his expressive, typographic murals, and for this project, he will use the phrase “What You Feed Will Grow” in elongated letterforms. Tanner’s mural, with a visual message that is timeless, as well as relevant to our community, will be a welcome addition to Macomb’s growing public art collection.
The mural is supported by a grant for the Performing Arts Society that is dedicated to advancing arts programming at Western Illinois University and in the Macomb community. Additional support is provided by Laverdiere Construction, Macomb, Illinois.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Art Council Agency and the Two Rivers Arts Council.
The Western Illinois Museum is located at 201 South Lafayette Street, one block south of Macomb’s Courthouse Square. For more information, contact the museum at 309.837.2750, send a text to 309.837.2613, or email at info@wimuseum.org.
