Open House at the Museum

The Western Illinois Museum invites the community to an open house to celebrate the recent renovation work and learn about what was accomplished in 2023 and what is planned for the coming year. The open house will be held on Sunday, February 25th, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Refreshments will be served.
During the open house, the Museum’s Board and Advisory Council members, staff, and volunteers will be on hand to hear ideas and feedback from the public. They will guide guests to view the new floor in the east building, explore the open collection area, see newly donated artifacts, and learn about what the recent American Alliance of Museums’ peer review recommends for improving the Museum’s stewardship. The Museum’s plans for 2024 will also be shared, including news about the recently received National Endowment for the Humanities grant and how it will impact the exhibit program. There will be information about how the Museum is supporting teachers with local primary sources in their classrooms and a Library of Congress grant that will bring funds for educators into the area. Guests can learn about plans for building a new Our Front Porch and program area in the east building and a grant-funded project to explore how the south parking lot can also function as a cultural corridor. During the open house, Museum Members will be asked to approve the 2024 Board of Directors which includes Jeff Kellogg, Dona Lantz, Gary Neuhardt, Sheila Nollen, Alice Trimmer, and Paul Trimmer.
The Museum’s programs are supported in part by grants from Illinois Humanities and the Illinois Arts Council Agency. The Western Illinois Museum is a non-profit organization celebrating and nurturing the history, culture, and traditions of McDonough County.
