Not So Easy Film Series to present Lives Well Lived

May 7, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The Western Illinois Museum announces the next film in the Not So Easy Film Series. The documentary film Lives Well Lived by Filmmaker Sky Bergman will be screened on Friday, May 5th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 7th at 2:00 pm at the Museum.  A virtual live Q&A with Sky Bergman will follow the Friday night screening. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door.

In her film, Lives Well Lived, Sky Bergman offers a collection of interviews of several older adults who share their historical perspectives, their advice for future generations, and reflections on living a life well lived. As the film unfolds, it becomes apparent that each person has a unique path but they share qualities that contribute to their vibrant well-being. With this film, Bergman brings this generation to the forefront and challenges us to re-examine the notion of age. She states, “Although they may have seen the worst of humanity, their outlook is still optimistic. Their stories are about perseverance, the human spirit, and staying positive in the midst of great challenges. Their thoughtful perspectives reveal a treasure-trove of life lessons and provide a reminder of the greatest role models in our own families.” This film offers all ages a chance to see and hear the wisdom of older adults leaving us to celebrate our lives as a journey.

The Not So Easy Film Series has been created for those who have questions that don’t have easy answers.  Through the power of cinema, the selected films share another point of view and offer insights about issues that are challenging to understand, elude solutions, or sometimes even to imagine. The films in the series hold the potential to move us to take another step toward a more nuanced understanding of the world around us -even if we still don’t know the answer to those hard questions.

Upcoming films in the Not So Easy Film Series include:

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed: June 2 and 4, 2023

The Neutral Ground: August 4 and 6, 2023
Storm Lake: October 6 and 8, 2023
The films scheduled for July, November, and December are still to be confirmed.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Two Rivers Arts Council. Additional funding was provided by a grant from the Illinois Humanities, with funds from the State of Illinois American Rescue Plan Act.
