George Turner Trio at the Blind Swine

June 15, 2018
Doors and cash bar open at 4:30 pm, music at 5:00 pm

The Western Illinois Museum announces The Blind Swine Speakeasy will be open June 15th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. What can be described as a cross between an event and exhibit, the raw space, once used as a garage, is a perfect fit for a Prohibition-era speakeasy that tackles the complex issues around the 18th amendment –all while enjoying music and a now legal beverage.  To add to the authentic 1920s era speakeasy experience, the yet to be renovated space will not be air-conditioned and has concrete floors and low lighting.

On June 15th, The George Turner Trio will play two sets starting at 5:00 pm.  Guitarist George Turner will be joined by Matt Hughes on bass, and Steve Adleman on drums. This well-honed trio will treat speakeasy guests to the new, radical sounds of jazz as it was considered during the Prohibition-era.

Visitors can enter the exhibit through the museum’s “back door” located on the south side of the building if they have the password. In addition to viewing the featured artifacts that tell the history of the areas’ 1920’s “talkies,” guests can enjoy a cash bar. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door.

The Blind Swine Speakeasy will be open on the first and third Fridays of the month from June through September. More details about upcoming music and activities taking place at the speakeasy will be announced, along with the password, on the museum’s Facebook page, Twitter feed and website.

The Western Illinois Museum is located at 201 South Lafayette Street in Macomb.  For more information, contact the museum at 309.837.2750 or info@wimuseum.org
