Book reading with Adrienne Graham
August 12, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
In partnership with One Human Family Macomb the Western Illinois Museum will host local author and educator, Adrienne C. Graham on Thursday, August 12 at 6:00 pm. The event will begin with the author reading her book, The Color of Friendship, followed by a discussion and activities. The event is free and open to the public.
Local author, Adrienne C. Graham is also a first-grade teacher at Lincoln School. She wrote the book, The Color of Friendship, based on her experience of growing up in an environment where she looked different from others. She is happy to share her story with children of all ages as a way to focus and learn about racial diversity. The events take the ideas that are woven into the story as a starting point for discussions and activities. Participants will learn about embracing and celebrating the companionship of friends no matter what they look like and appreciating their differences. Also, information about ways parents and children can talk about race and the importance of hard work and perseverance to accomplish goals. Resources will be provided to continue learning about these topics.
The Color of Friendship is available locally at Nostalgia, as well as Adrienne’s latest book, Little Sisters are a BIG Deal. Both are also available on Amazon. Anyone who would like a signed copy can contact Adrienne at grahambooks2020@gmail.com.
