Average Joey with John Lane
June 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Western Illinois Museum is pleased to welcome Average Joey with local favorite John Lane to perform on Our Front Porch on Tuesday, June 11th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Traveling songwriter Average Joey will share an unlikely blend of folk songs, country tunes, and punk rock banjo backed by fiddler and all-around musician John Lane. Doors and bar open at 6:30 pm with music starting at 7:00 pm. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door.
Average Joey is a traveling songwriter and musician from Pennsylvania. With an emphasis on lyricism, Joey’s songs mix the vulnerability of personal reflection with the political commentary of speaking truth to power. As entertaining as he is honest, as self-aware as he is philosophical, Average Joey’s live show blends musical performance, spoken word poetry, and acapella-style group singing to engage the audience with a variety of instrumentation and presentation. His lyrics and poetry offer dark humor, blunt honesty, and image-driven wordplay. Joey does not shy away from the big picture, and the people’s struggles, but presents their stories in a relatable and accessible way. An Average Joey performance invites us to laugh at the absurdities of our times and challenges the audience to envision a better world to build it together.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Two Rivers Arts Council.
